About Daryl Wong
Daryl Wong was raised in Hawaii, and
followed in his father's footsteps in many ways. He was swimming by
age 3 and then following his father around in the water for the next
several years, learning to spearfish with traditional Hawaiian slings.
His father was a dentist, as well as an avid hunter, diver, and fisherman.
He was an expert shot with the rifle, coaching in high school, and
becoming the 1950 State Champion. Daryl is now also a dentist, a
hunter, a diver, and a fisherman. Daryl was also a high school coach
in rifle shooting, and he was also a State Champ in 1975. |
Daryl is especially passionate about
spearfishing and began making his own spearguns in the 70's. He
began with pipeguns and migrated to wood guns in the 80's. At first,
he was making guns for himself, then for friends, then for friends of
friends. He enjoys experimenting with different product designs and
materials, including titanium and carbon fibers, always looking for the
better mousetrap. Whether it's woodworking on his spearguns, or
doing crown and bridge work for his dental practice, Daryl is a craftsman
who enjoys interacting with people and building custom products.
For Daryl, the best part of
spearfishing is not so much the catch, but "the hunt". He enjoys the
challenge and the strategizing that go along with spearfishing. He
is an accomplished hunter, but he also takes joy in seeing other people
succeed, even more so when they are using a gun that he built for them!
He welcomes inquiries and feedback from the spearfishing community, as he
is in a perpetual state of product development, and is always open to new
ideas. He is also willing to give free consultations as to the best
speargun for each particular situation. |
